Is anyone else tired of the “New Age”, be happy, just forgive and forget philosophy? Maybe it’s just me but the thought of being relaxed and calm all the time is not going to help me write blog posts or articles. Certainly, it won’t put you in a wealth creation mindset. Why is it that all the personal development blogs and books want us to repress our anger? Anger is a great personal motivator. Let me ask you this, are you more apt to start a business because you want to make the world better place or because you’re disappointed with yourself and your current situation? Wanting to make the world better is great but let’s assume the latter is a bigger motivation in your world.
Why Anger Works?
- Visualize - Imagine running into an ex-girlfriend after she dumped you. You’re now successful and wealthy. You’re driving a Ferrari and dating a super-model. That’s easy to imagine and the accompanying feelings that it creates easily brings a smile to my face.
- Instant Motivation - Do this the next time you think you need to a boost; try to remember a time when you were wronged or scammed by someone and the anger you felt. I guarantee you will be revitalized and ready to work your ass off.
- Narrows Your Focus - Revenge gives you a target. Many people float around aimlessly and have no idea what they want. Anger makes it much easier to concentrate on a problem.
- Holds you Accountable – You have a bad day or an unproductive day, most likely, your “target” had a great day and is probably smiling at your demise. Remember the great athlete Dan O’Brien? It is said he would get up at 3 o’clock in morning and workout because he thought his rival Dave Johnson was getting a edge on him.
Cautions and Concerns
- Always control your emotions - Anyone who spouts off and starts cursing has no control. If you want wealth the first thing you need to do is to control yourself.
- Focus Energy - Use your revenge constructively. Never become physical with your anger, always write it out or lift some weights. Never use your voice in anger.
- Protect your Personality - Revenge should not become who you are. It’s simply a way to motivate yourself.
How can this have anything to do with wealth? Well, it is my opinion that many people lack the motivation to do great things. They would rather sit on the couch, watch the rainfall and wait for Ed McMahon to show up at the door. One thing we all have in common is that instance when someone has wronged us. That feeling has a power to it. For many people, emotions will flood by just thinking about it. When you can harness these emotions, you can use this power to create a life that you want. What could it hurt to try it?

Spot on! I smiled at this post because it is exactly the approach I have taken to really push myself to success — living well is the best revenge. My mantra.
And, you know… it really does work. Not only because it gives you the drive to push through a painful situation (after all, most often the things that anger us to want revenge, to feel hate, do so because they’ve hurt us deeply) and the power to succeed, but also because putting that anger-energy to work burns it up… you won’t carry the pain or the hate, which only serves to chain to to the object of those emotions while poisoning you.
Then, one day you wake up and are free to enjoy all you’ve accomplished, the anger and pain lifted from your soul.
Indeed, living well *is* the best revenge.
And, naturally, there is also the satisfaction of being seen not as someone who acted a fool, emotionally out of control, pain visible, but someone who head up, shoulders back, and eyes forward strode forward to a better future, not wasting one iota of energy on what appears to all those taking notice an unimportant past.
Nice post. Excellent advice. I find that the approach has been a good one for me. I’ll look forward to reading more of your work.

Sharon,
As always thanks for commenting.
Anger is great weapon in your arsenal if you can harness it’s power. I’m pretty sure God gave us anger for something. Is this the answer probably not but it is better than repressing a true emotion.
